Ecosystem Threats to Food Security

We are specifically focusing on expanded habitat assessments and ecosystem restoration. In addition to the Pacific salmon species integrity, are increased concerns over several migrations of caribou and ungulates spanning across the state – Western Arctic, Mulchatna, and other caribou herds and their calving grounds.

We are also working with partners to create a baseline understanding of invasive plant occurrence and collecting indigenous seeds that can be cultivated and used to support future restoration projects in the region. Ensuring vigilance on collection and maintaining aquatic and ecological landscape values will help enhance and solidify ecosystem resilience to ever-shifting landscapes due to climate change and threatened species showing steep declines in the past decade
