Volunteers contribute to many BLM program areas, including recreation, wild horses and burros, cultural/historical resources, and environmental education/interpretation.

In 2016, the BLM volunteer program worked with more than 27,000 volunteers, with their contributions nearing 1 million hours, or the equivalent of 542 work years.  This service has an estimated value of roughly $22.5 million to the BLM.
