Rangeland Inventory, Monitoring and Evaluation
Since 1989, the Bureau of Land Management’s rangeland management program has compiled an annual Rangeland Inventory, Monitoring, and Evaluation report. The report contains seven tables:
- Tables 1 and 2 report on inventories of vegetation on BLM rangelands.
- Table 3 reports on trends in vegetation on BLM rangelands.
- Tables 1 through 3 are reported to satisfy Section 201(a) of The Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976, as amended, and the Public Rangelands Improvement Act of 1978, both of which affirm Congress’s intent to have the BLM prepare and maintain on a continuing basis an inventory of public rangeland conditions and trends.
- Table 4 reports the number of grazing allotments (areas of land administered by the Bureau of Land Management within which livestock grazing is authorized) and their total acreage.
- Table 5 reports on monitoring of livestock grazing use and resource conditions within grazing allotments.
- Table 6 reports on the current status of land management plans implemented on grazing allotments, which prescribe how livestock grazing is conducted and managed.
- Table 7 reports on the extent to which grazing allotments are achieving the BLM's Standards for Rangeland Health, which are fundamental requirements for achieving functional, healthy public lands.
The Rangeland Inventory, Monitoring, and Evaluation report is generated by the BLM’s National Operations Center in Denver, Colorado. Contact Michael “Sherm” Karl at mkarl@blm.gov, or at 303-236- 0166, for more information.
