Dogskin Mountains HMA

Horses are predominantly black and dark bay with a few gray and grulla colors. Most of these horses range in size from 14 to 15 hands (56 to 60 inches measured from the ground to the top of their withers). Many of these horses resemble the Morgan horse.

Location: The Dogskin Mountain Herd Management Areas (HMAs) is located approximately 25 miles north of Reno and is situated east of Bedell Flat in the Dogskin Mountain range.

Size: The area consists of 6,497 acres of BLM land and 26 acres of a mix of private and other public lands for a total of 6,523 acres.

Topography/Vegetation: Elevations range from 5,550 feet to 7,500 feet in elevation. The terrain of this HMA is very steep, rocky and rugged, which creates a horse which is surefooted and incredibly agile.
