Wind PEIS

The Wind Energy Development Programmatic EIS website contains all of the materials that went into the Wind Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) released in 2008.  The site also includes information on the Wind and Solar Leasing Rule.

Wind site and project area testing is used to determine whether an area’s wind energy potential is adequate for development.  These testing sites are generally meteorological towers, also called "met"  towers, but may also include other testing tools.  A project area for testing may be secured where a developer wishes to prevent other developers from entering and testing the wind resource in a given area.  A right-of-way may be granted for an initial period of three years to allow for testing to be completed.  If the data gathered indicates that the wind resource is adequate, a development proposal may be submitted to the BLM for review.
