Burros on the range

Twin Mills Pasture Wild Burro Gather

Gather Complete

Purpose of Gather:Wild Horse and Burro Logo

The gather was requested by private landowners due to wild burros damaging private property, such as destroying water systems and tearing down fencing.

Details of Gather:

The BLM Colorado River District, Kingman Field Office used a bait trap to gather and remove wild burros from the Twin Mills Pasture located on private land inside the Black Mountain Herd Management Area in Mohave County, Arizona. The goal was to gather and remove 75 wild burros. The goal was reached and the gather has ended. Due to the sensitive nature of the bait-trap gather method, public observation was not available so as not to disturb gather operations.

The gather was conducted by a BLM contractor and involved the use of corrals with hay, supplement, or water to lure the burros through a gate that then closed.

Adoption Information

Wild burros removed from the area were transported to the Wild Horse and Burro Off-Range Corral in Axtell, Utah, to be prepared for the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Program.
