Leed's Reef Trail

  • Activities: Hiking, Biking, and Horseback Riding

  • Trail Distance: 1.4 miles (one way) single-track

  • Trail Difficulty: Moderate

Trail Description:

The Leed's Reef Trail is accessible via the White Reef Trailhead in the Red Cliffs Recreation Area. From the trailhead, follow the White Reef Trail 950 feet, then turn right onto the Leeds Reef Trail. Despite the trail’s proximity to the I-15 freeway, the sound of traffic dies down quickly upon leaving the trailhead.

This route runs parallel to the White Reef Trail, but offers a different experience. Whereas White Reef is comprised of soft clay soils, the upper elevation of Leeds Reef is primarily composed of sandy/rocky loam and gravel, and is preferred by cyclists.

This trail offers great views of the Red Reef geologic formation to the north as you wind your way through stands of creosote. The named trail ends at the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area boundary, but continues on as a road heading east to the Silver Reef area.

Visitors may create a 3.2 mile clock-wise loop by taking the White Reef Trail, turning right onto the Adit Trail (connector), and then right again onto the Leeds Reef Trail to return back to the White Reef Trailhead.

Within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, critical habitat for the endangered Shivwits milkvetch, a small native plant that grows only in Washington County on specific soil types are conserved and protected for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations. Please help us conserve and protect your public lands by following all outdoor ethics and posted regulations.
