HAINES, Alaska – Today the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Glennallen Field Office is announcing a 30-day public review and comment period on a request from Constantine Metal Resources LTD’s (Constantine) to modify the road design included in their already approved Plan of Operations.
Constantine’s current exploration is in an area known as the Palmer Project, located within the Porcupine Mining District. Constantine is currently authorized under the BLM for up to 40 acres of ground disturbance to carry out exploratory activity on their Federal claims.
In January of 2017, Constantine submitted a Notice of Modification that consisted of an 800 foot extension to the already approved road design included in their Plan of Operations and Environmental Assessment approved August, 2016. The 0.47 acres of disturbance associated with constructing the extension would be included in the existing 40 acres of authorized disturbance and would serve as access to State mining claims that are currently under lease to Constantine. Their new proposal requires further public, stakeholder, and agency review, including a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis.
The public comment period on Constantine’s proposed plan begins, Friday, April 28, 2017 and ends Sunday, May 28, 2017. To review the proposed road plan modification and submit comments, please visit the BLM’s National NEPA register at https://eplanning.blm.gov/epl-front-office. Using an “Advanced Search,” enter NEPA number: DOI-BLM-AK-A020-2017-0025-EA. Comments may also be submitted to the BLM Glennallen Field Office, Attn: Constantine, P.O. Box 147, Glennallen, AK 99588.
