Thomas Heinlein
Colorado State Director (Acting)
Tom Heinlein became the acting Colorado State Director in May 2026 after serving as the acting Utah State Director since January 2026. Previously, he was the Assistant Director for National Conservation Lands and Community Partnerships since 2022. Heinlein has a wealth of land management experience, including as acting State Director for Alaska and Anchorage District Manager. He has also served as Rocky Mountain District Manager in Colorado and Field Manager in Monticello, Utah, and completed assignments as National Operations Center Associate Director, Deputy State Director for Resources for Eastern States, Division Chief for Forest and Rangelands
and Deputy Division Chief for National Conservation Lands. Before joining the BLM in 2008, Heinlein worked for the National Park Service, the Ecological Restoration Institute at Northern Arizona University, and the U.S. Forest Service.
