Kris Kirby

BLM Wyoming State Director (Acting)

Kris Kirby became the acting Wyoming State Director in May 2026. She had previously served in this role for a stint in 2025. Before that, she served as the Wyoming Associate State Director starting in August 2022. Prior to joining the BLM, Kirby spent more than 26 years with the National Park Service, including 6 years as the Superintendent of Manhattan Project National Historical Park, managing sites in New Mexico, Tennessee, and Washington State and working closely with the Department of Energy on overall park management. She also held roles at Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Glacier and Yosemite National Parks. Kirby began her federal career as a student hire at the Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement in Denver, Colorado, before joining the National Park Service after graduating from college. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Metropolitan State University of Denver and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
