Kevin Pendergast
Alaska State Director
As the State Director for the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska, Kevin Pendergast oversees the management of 70 million acres of public lands and 220 million subsurface acres of the federal mineral estate, statewide wildfire suppression efforts, and a complex land transfer program.
Before stepping into this role in 2025, Pendergast served as the BLM Alaska Deputy State Director for Resources since 2019, leading key mining programs and managing BLM’s oil and gas leasing efforts in the state while overseeing recreation and many other important programs.
Pendergast has also held roles across multiple Department of the Interior offices, including as the Deputy Regional Director for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement in Alaska, a stint as senior program advisor for Interior’s Office of Budget and another as acting Deputy Superintendent of Grand Teton National Park. Prior to joining Interior, for nearly 15 years he formed his career in Alaska as a consultant and project manager in the private sector, during which he worked in nearly every corner of the state.
Pendergast earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Oregon State University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Alaska and a certified Professional Geologist from the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Pendergast lives in Anchorage with his wife and family.
