Assistant Director for Energy, Minerals, and Realty Management

Nick Douglas returned to the BLM as the Assistant Director for Energy, Minerals, and Realty Management in June 2019 after working for the U.S. Forest Service as the Director of Minerals and Geology Management since 2012. Prior to that, he spent nearly 30 years with the Department of the Interior, mostly with the BLM. Douglas began his career as a Petroleum Engineer in the private sector and also taught engineering classes at the Colorado School of Mines. During his previous time with the BLM, he served as a Petroleum Engineer and Interdisciplinary Team Leader in field offices in Lewistown, Montana, and Bakersfield, California; as District Manager in Anchorage, Alaska; and as Senior Policy Advisor to the BLM Director and the Department of the Interior for the agency’s oil shale development program. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Arts and Industries University, now known as Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and completed doctoral work in mineral economics at the Colorado School of Mines.
