Acting Assistant Director for Energy, Minerals, and Realty Management

Ben Gruber is the Acting Assistant Director for Energy, Minerals, and Realty Management. Prior to assuming this role, he served as the Deputy Assistant Director overseeing the BLM’s energy, minerals and realty management programs. He first joined BLM Headquarters in July 2009. During this time, he served as a Budget Program Analyst, Senior Legislative Affairs Specialist and Acting Division Chief. Gruber also spent a year as a BLM Congressional Fellow in the U.S. Senate. In January 2017, he moved to southern California and worked in BLM’s California Desert District as Associate District Manager and Acting District Manager. He became Deputy State Director for Energy, Lands, and Minerals in the Colorado State Office in July 2020 and acted as Associate State Director in Colorado for several months in early 2022. Gruber has a law degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He also has a master’s degree in public policy and management and a bachelor’s degree in English from The Ohio State University.
