POWDERHORN WILDERNESS STUDY AREA

Values

The Bill Hare Gulch WSA is adjacent to the Uncompahgre Wilderness (managed by the USFS). The WSA is comprised of steep terrain at the lower end of three gulches. Vegetation consists mainly of aspen, spruce-fir, sagebrush, grasses, shrubs, and forbs. Fauna includes elk, mule deer, mountain lion, black bear, and bighorn sheep. Activities include exploring and hunting.

Visitation Information

The Bill Hare Gulch WSA is located in Hinsdale County, 4 miles north of Lake City. Access to the WSA is cross country hiking through steep terrain from the adjacent Uncompahgre Wilderness.
