In 2025, the BLM Northeastern States District Office teamed up with Bat Conservation International (BCI) to acoustically monitor for threatened and endangered bat species in Lake Vermilion, Minnesota.

Growing Resilience from the Ground Up at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA

Workers at the ONA native-plant nursery are currently growing, installing and experimenting with a mix of native plants adapted for a volatile environment that is increasingly vulnerable to erosion, flooding, intense storm events.

The lower strand of barbed wire was removed and replaced with a solid strand of wire 18” above the ground, designed to protect bighorn sheep.

Cold Snap Provides Critical Opportunity for Invasive Species Management at Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA

While these temperatures posed a challenge for local flora and fauna, they also provided a strategic window for BLM to address the persistent issue of on-site invasive Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana).

Building for birds: Scouts support public lands

Eagle Scout Sam Bender led 48 volunteers to build 15 bird boxes at Pariette Wetlands, boosting wildlife habitat and earning his Eagle rank. The BLM welcomes Scouts and others to partner on service projects.
