BLM, Bat Conservation International Monitor Bat Species on Lake Vermilion Islands

In 2025, the BLM Northeastern States District Office teamed up with Bat Conservation International (BCI) to acoustically monitor for threatened and endangered bat species in Lake Vermilion, Minnesota.

The lower strand of barbed wire was removed and replaced with a solid strand of wire 18” above the ground, designed to protect bighorn sheep.

BLM Las Cruces District employees mend fences in the Bootheel

Last week, BLM Las Cruces District Office employees partnered with the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Association for stewardship event to improve wildlife connectivity on BLM land around the Lordsburg, New Mexico area.

Cold Snap Provides Critical Opportunity for Invasive Species Management at Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA

While these temperatures posed a challenge for local flora and fauna, they also provided a strategic window for BLM to address the persistent issue of on-site invasive Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana).

Building for birds: Scouts support public lands

Eagle Scout Sam Bender led 48 volunteers to build 15 bird boxes at Pariette Wetlands, boosting wildlife habitat and earning his Eagle rank. The BLM welcomes Scouts and others to partner on service projects.

Partnership drives ongoing habitat restoration in Muddy Creek watershed

BLM, Trout Unlimited, and youth crews installed 98 beaver dam analogs in the Muddy Creek watershed, restoring 14 miles of habitat for native fish, mule deer, sage grouse, and other wildlife.

BLM Billings Field Office works with state agencies in Montana to conduct bat surveys

On June 26, 2025, Bureau of Land Management Billings Field Office employees coordinated with Montana Natural Heritage Program and Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks personnel to conduct bat surveys at Mystery Cave in the Pryor Mountains.
