Wildlife Program Highlights

University of Wyoming researcher Walker Bensch is studying how grazing and trampling by elk and cattle influence native bees, wildflowers and pollinator habitat on public lands near Fossil Butte National Monument.

Through classroom visits, community events, and demonstrations, Bureau of Land Management wildlife biologist Joelle Acton helps people understand the reptiles that share the Mohave Desert landscape.

Workers at the ONA native-plant nursery are currently growing, installing and experimenting with a mix of native plants adapted for a volatile environment that is increasingly vulnerable to erosion, flooding, intense storm events.

Last week, BLM Las Cruces District Office employees partnered with the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Association for stewardship event to improve wildlife connectivity on BLM land around the Lordsburg, New Mexico area.

While these temperatures posed a challenge for local flora and fauna, they also provided a strategic window for BLM to address the persistent issue of on-site invasive Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana).
