MAY 18: CO Public Lands Day Sand Canyon Wildflower Hike

Event Description

Celebrate Colorado Public Lands Day by joining San Juan Mountains Association on a guided spring wildflower hike at Sand Canyon in Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. The hike will be no more than 5 miles on moderate terrain. Along the way, we will observe and learn about the flowers in bloom, as well as learn about the area’s geology and human history.

When: May 18, 2024, 9:00 a.m. – noon

Where: Sand Canyon and Rock Creek Trailhead (second parking lot coming from Cortez)

What to Bring: Plenty of water, a hat, sunscreen, snacks and/or lunch, hiking shoes/boots appropriate for uneven rocky ground, and layers for the weather. Please note: There are no restrooms in Sand Canyon. No dogs, please. Families welcome!
