"I've always been interested in doing a residency, but none really spoke to me until I saw this one. I look forward to spending time exploring the landscape, improving my art and connection with the Earth. My goal is to create meaningful, lasting works of art; art that inspires and encourages people to connect with the land. I believe the relationship between art and the landscape promotes a positive connection and feeling of stewardship to the land."

GSENM says goodbye to 2023 Artist-in-Resident (AiR)

ESCALANTE, Utah (Sept. 24, 2023) – Melody Greenlief, this year's resident artist, finished up her time here on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Greenlief's residency included programs with local students and a "painting on the rim" event at Bryce Canyon, as part of the Park's anniversary celebration. She visited Calf Creek and Devil's Garden to paint and encourage others to contribute to a collaborative sketchbook. Greenlief's end of residency exhibit on display at this year's Escalante Canyons Art Festival.

The Artist-in-Residence is sponsored through a partnership between the Monument, Escalante Canyons Art Festival and Glen Canyon Conservancy. Additional art by Greenlief may be seen on BLM Utah's Flickr and at https://www.melodygreenlief.com/.
