Buffalo Field Office

The Buffalo Field Office manages 780,291 acres of public lands and 4,731,140 acres of mineral estate within Campbell, Johnson and Sheridan counties in north-central Wyoming. These three counties are part of the Northern Great Plains and are rich in old west history.

This area contains vast deposits of oil, gas and coal, in addition to providing a variety of resources such as wildlife habitat and rangelands for livestock grazing. The public lands and adjacent Bighorn National Forest provide many opportunities for recreational activities.

Public Notice 
The Federal Highway Administration - in cooperation with BLM, Sheridan County, and the U.S. Forest Service - is planning to make improvements to Red Grade Road near Sheridan, WY. Red Grade Road will temporarily be closed Mon-Fri from 8 am to 6 pm for two construction seasons, approximately May 2026-October 2026, and May 2027-October 2027.
