Volunteer Opportunities
Thanks for your interest in becoming a volunteer! There are many ways you can help care for your public lands, from one-time volunteer opportunities for individuals of all ages to longer-term positions, as well as options for families and groups. We hope that your experience with the Bureau of Land Management will enhance your awareness, understanding, and appreciation of our natural and cultural resources.

Annual Volunteer Events
Each year, BLM offices nationwide host volunteer events on special days that celebrate recreation and conservation on public lands.
April: Earth Day
Earth Day is observed worldwide to raise environmental awareness and involve citizens and communities in creating a cleaner, healthier world. The BLM works to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations, and you can help us achieve this. June: National Trails Day
National Trails Day is an annual celebration dedicated to the stewardship and enjoyment of America’s trails, and it’s a perfect opportunity to give back to your public lands. Each year, volunteers across the country join forces to maintain, restore, and improve trails that connect people with nature. Join us to help protect vital recreation resources, enhance trail safety, and ensure these pathways remain accessible for future generations.
September: National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands. NPLD events are coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation. To find out more visit neef.org/npld, or contact a BLM State Office.
As the nation’s largest land manager, the Bureau of Land Management plays a vital role in this annual celebration. In 2025, BLM proudly hosted approximately 30% of all National Public Lands Day events that took place on federally managed lands. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 8,000+ volunteers, staff, and partners who contributed their time and energy to these efforts.
