Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

14 miles of routes open to all modes of travel in Garfield County

The BLM Grand Junction Field Office Manager opened 14 miles of BLM-managed routes in Garfield County in the vicinity of Garfield County Road 200 from administrative use only to open to all modes of travel.

Tres Rios Field Office plans multiple prescribed burns for fall 2025

The Tres Rios field office will be initiating fall prescribed burns between September and October. The prescribed burns will take place along the West Rim of the Dolores River and northwest of Bayfield.

BLM Colorado reopens some public lands closed for public, firefighter safety

BLM will reopen some public lands in Mesa County after the Turner Gulch wildfire prompted land closures. Some areas remain closed to keep the public, firefighters safe while crews continue to work in the area.

Due to moderation of fire conditions throughout Northwest Colorado, Stage 2 fire restrictions are lifted effective September 11, 2025. Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect.

The Bureau of Land Management is preparing three prescribed burns northwest of Cañon City, Colo. Burns will take place between late September 2025 and April 2026 as weather and fuel moisture conditions permit.
