Purpose of the gather

Removal of nuisance wild burros from private land.

Details of the Gather

The BLM will begin removing approximately 125 nuisance burros from Private land beginning September 27, 2017. The gather will be a bait and water trap gather conducted by Federal gather contractor.

Public observation

Because of the nature of the bait and water trap gathers, there will be no public observation.

Adoption Information

Excess wild burros removed from the range will be transported to the Florence facility located in Florence, Arizona where they will be prepared for the BLM adoption program. For information on how to adopt a wild burro, visit http://www.blm.gov/whb.

Background

The Kingman Field Office received nuisance burro complaint letters and request to remove wild burros from a private property. The request outlined damage to private property, water systems, fencing, etc. AML for the Black Mountain HMA is 478 burros and the current population is approximately 1725 burros base on 2014 population estimate.
