New Mexico LOCATABLE MINERALS

Notable locatable mineral operations in New Mexico includes the Chino mine and Tyrone mine  in southwest New Mexico. Both these open pit copper mines are operated by Freeport Minerals Corporation, a subsidiary of Freeport McMoRan Inc., and involve public land.

Notable locatable mineral projects in New Mexico involved in the BLM permitting process include the Copper Flats project and the Foothills Dolomite project. New Mexico Copper Corporation has proposed to redevelop the Copper Flats open pit mine near Hillsboro in Sierra County to produce copper and molybdenum (https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/75353/510).

American Magnesium LLC has proposed to produce magnesium from an open pit dolomite mine via the Foothills Dolomite project near Deming in Luna County (https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/1505402/510).
