South Zone Fire Management Office

The South Fire Management Zone does not fall within the BLM AFS Protection area, but instead encompasses 153.9 million acres within Alaska Division of Forestry protection area covering a southern section of the state. South Zone staff provide the expertise for fire management, logistical, aviation and support activities within Southern Alaska in support of the BLM Alaska State Office, Anchorage and Glennallen Field Offices.

Zone personnel also conduct operational reviews relating to fire suppression performance of the State of Alaska for responsiveness to DOI and Alaska Native land manager requirements and compliance with policies, objectives, standards, safety and overall effectiveness in operations. The staff provides oversight of aviation operations and safety for BLM aviation users within the zone.
