BLM seeks public input on proposed McTarnahan Communication Site
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment to inform preparation of an environmental assessment for the proposed McTarnahan Communication Site project located south of Carson City. This includes seeking information and identifying historic properties in or near the project area. The 15-day public comment period will end on August 4, 2025.
The Nevada Department of Transportation proposes to build a 100-foot tower and a communication building with a small solar array. The communications site area would be 0.43 acres, and the total combined acreage including new access road would be 1.5 acres. The Department proposes to build the facility because the growth of Carson City and surrounding areas has reached the limits of the radio system used by first responders.
A project map is available online and BLM prefers comments be submitted via the https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2039524/510. Comments may also be submitted via mail to 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV 89701, Attn: McTarnahan Communication Site or fax to 775-885-6147. Written comments must be postmarked or otherwise hand delivered by 4:30 p.m. PDT on or before August 4, 2025.
