Record of the Week: Bat Week

Welcome to another General Land Office (GLO) Record of the Week! In celebration of Bat Week and Halloween, the GLO team put together a collection of records to tell us more about bats and their important role they play in our ecosystem. Read more on ArcGIS story maps.

Bat Week is a yearly celebration to highlight the important role that bats play in our environment. Bats, though spooky, are often considered a keystone species, which means that they play a critical role in their ecosystems. This story map features a few important bat habitats like Bear Gulch Cave and Carlsbad Caverns National Park, as well as some bat-related records from our vault, and interesting bat information.

The GLO website provides live access to federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States, including image access to more than 12 million federal land title records issued between 1788 and the present. The site also hosts images of survey plats and field notes, land status records, and control document index records, and is one of the most visited websites in the Department of the Interior.
