White Mountain Petroglyphs | Wyoming

The White Mountain Petroglyphs Site is open year-round and averages 12,000 visitors per year. The location is part of a cultural landscape that is culturally important to four Native American tribes, featuring rock art panels dating back 200+ years.

The access road from County Road 4-17 to the parking area is an improved dirt road and conditions can change with weather. Access from the parking area is a steep walking path 2/3 mile long. The walking path contains two pedestrian gates visitors must pass through before reaching the petroglyphs. There is a bench at the beginning of the walking path, one approximately halfway to the petroglyphs, and one situated before entering the site exclosure by the second pedestrian gate.

Summer months can be very hot, and no shade structures are provided. Potable water is also not available.

The parking area provides a trash receptacle and dog waste bag station.

Cell service is limited and unreliable.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)

Accessible vault toilets are available in the parking area.

ADA Accessibility should be arranged through the Field Office for driving access through the Administrative Use gate.

Directions

Take State Highway 191 north to mile marker 10. Go East on County Road 4-17 for thirteen miles. Head West on the White Mountain Petroglyphs access route. It is three miles to the parking area. A 2/3-mile steep walking path leads through the pedestrian gate and to the site.
