Little Desert Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Open Area

Please stay on Existing Routes in the Little Desert Off-Highway Vehicle Open Area to Protect Important Resources in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Background: On October 8, 2021, Proclamation 10286 restored the boundaries and conditions of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument that existed prior to December 4, 2017. Per the direction in the Proclamation, the BLM is developing a new management plan for the monument.  The 116 acres of BLM-managed public lands identified in the Kanab-Escalante Planning Area Resource Management Plan as the Little Desert Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area became a part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument as a result of Proclamation 10286.  Under the current management plan, the Little Desert OHV area is open to cross-county OHV travel.  As part of the planning process, which will include multiple opportunities for public input, the BLM will review the existing OHV-open area designation and determine whether it is compatible with the protection of the objects and values for which the monument has been designated. Until the completion of a new monument resource management plan, the BLM requests that the public refrain from using the Little Desert OHV area for cross county OHV travel. Remaining on existing routes within this area will help protect resources in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument such as native vegetation.
