Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

BLM accepting nominations for geothermal development in Idaho

The BLM is accepting nominations of Idaho public lands for competitive geothermal leasing for the geothermal lease sale tentatively scheduled for October 2026. All nominations must be received by Oct. 1, 2025. Nominations received after this deadline will be processed for a future lease sale.

BLM seeks input on proposed geothermal leasing in southern Idaho

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking input on proposed geothermal leasing of five parcels totaling approximately 19,596 acres across Blaine, Camas, and Cassia counties. The comment period will end Aug. 29, 2025. Leasing of these parcels will allow lessees to explore the potential for future geothermal development.

BLM to hold September 2025 geothermal lease sale in southern Idaho

The Bureau of Land Management Idaho State Office will hold a competitive geothermal lease sale on Sept. 9, 2025, offering nine parcels totaling nearly 20,615 acres in Elmore and Washington counties and roughly 3,740 acres in Bonneville County. Leasing of these parcels will allow the lessees to explore and potentially develop geothermal resources within the parcel. The auction will be held online via EnergyNet.
