Beauty Bay Temporarily Closes for Forest Health and Safety Work
COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho— The Bureau of Land Management will temporarily close the Beauty Bay Recreation Site from September 8 – October 8, 2026 while crews remove hazardous trees and conduct vegetation management to improve forest health and public safety. The project includes commercial timber harvesting and removal of trees killed or weakened by pine beetle infestations. The site will remain closed while work is underway to protect public safety during harvest removal operations.
The site closure area is approximately 11 miles southeast of Coeur d’Alene on Highway 97, and is specifically located in Township 49 North, Range 3 West, Section 11.
Beauty Bay Recreation Area offers a pleasant highway rest stop with a small picnic area near the edge of the forest. A short half-mile trail offers scenic views of Coeur d’Alene Lake. The Coeur d’Alene Field Office appreciates the public’s patience during this closure for hazard tree removal that will enhance the safety and resiliency of this site.
