Seeking Applications for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument 2016 Artists-in-Residence Program

Utah—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is accepting applications beginning Dec. 22, 2015 through Jan. 29, 2016, for its spring Artists-in-Residence (AiR) program, at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) as a premier event in the midst of the 2016 year-long celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of GSENM: Learning from the Land, Learning from Each Other.
For several weeks, in and around Kanab, and Escalante, Utah, from late April until mid-May, two selected artists—a writer and a musician—will join a photographer in a creative, uniquely rugged environment in which to generate artistic works and share their works with the public. Artistic expertise, professionalism, and creative uses of artistic media are encouraged. Selected artists receive housing for the duration of the event. During their stay, these artists will share their passion in public workshops as a part of the Amazing Earthfest, then collaborate to share their vision in a multi-media production.
A panel of BLM, Glen Canyon Natural History Association, Grand Staircase-Escalante Partners, and Amazing Earthfest officials will judge the applicant pool. Selections are made on the basis of the following criteria: entry materials, event proposal, professional resume, and creative vision with respect to GSENM's public education goals. The BLM holds a publishing copyright to donated artwork for promotional use to advance education and the BLM AiR program. The artists will retain a non-exclusive use copyright.
