Salem, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) Northwest (NW) Oregon Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet at the Springfield Interagency Office at 3106 Pierce Parkway in Springfield, OR on October 13 and the BLM Salem District Office at 1717 Fabry Road SE in Salem, OR on October 14 and 20. The focus of the meetings will be to review and provide recommendations for grant proposals for Title II funding as part of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000, reauthorized in 2015 via Public Law (PL) 114-10.

These public meetings will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. Public comment periods will be provided on each day from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Title II funds are designed to make investments in public lands and create additional employment opportunities through projects that improve the maintenance of existing infrastructure, implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems, and restore and improve land health and water quality. These projects are also designed to improve cooperative relationships among the people that use and care for public lands and the agencies that manage these lands. Projects must benefit Federal lands/resources in the benefiting county.

The Title II funds are managed by Federal agencies. The NW Oregon RAC made up of local citizens, will recommend how these funds will be spent. An interactive map viewer that allows users to get a geospatial understanding about the proposed projects, and see how they intersect with other land owners and agencies, as well as how certain projects intersect with each other is available at: blm.gov/or/rac/nworrac.php.

In future meetings, the RAC will provide recommendations for recreation fee changes under the 2005 Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act, and provide advice on various BLM issues in NW Oregon as they occur.  For more information about BLM’s NW Oregon RAC visit: blm.gov/or/rac/nworrac.php
