Medford, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Medford district office and the U.S. Forest Service Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest office are issuing Christmas tree cutting permits from now through December 24. Permits are available for Noble fir, Doug fir, Shasta red fir, and white fir. The cost for a single tree up to 12 feet high is $5.00. There is a limit of five trees per household. No commercial permits will be issued. The permit tag authorizes purchasers to cut their own tree(s) on a self-serve basis in designated areas. Each permit must be validated prior to transporting a freshly cut tree by securely attaching it to the tree trunk in a visible location.

New this year through a partnership with the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, the Medford District Bureau of Land Management, has added these Christmas tree maps to the online mobile navigation app, Avenza Maps. The free mobile app, Avenza Maps, can be used as a navigation tool, even in areas without cellular service, similar to Google Maps.

The map, which is provided to the public at the time of purchase of Christmas tree permits, serves as a “go/no go” style map to help inform them where they can both legally and safely harvest their Christmas trees. The new map includes multiple important updates across SW Oregon, including safety precautions, information regarding the Sudden Oak Death quarantine area, and the updated boundary for the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.

Permits and maps are available at the Medford BLM Office, located at 3040 Biddle Road, Medford, Oregon 97504. Office hours are from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For further information about Christmas tree permits, call 541-618-2200.
