CODY, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management and Park County Weed and Pest invite you to celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 3, with a hike on the Sheep Mountain Trail, located in the North Fork of the Shoshone River corridor.

Participants will hike through a scenic box canyon to an abandoned cabin on top of Sheep Mountain. This free event is open to everyone.

“We look forward to celebrating National Trails Day with you on Sheep Mountain,” said Paul Rau, BLM outdoor recreation planner in the Cody Field Office. “This will be a great way for people to connect with trails in their own back yard.”

Meet at 9 a.m. at the BLM Cody Field Office to caravan to the trailhead. The hike will take 4-6 hours. Please wear durable hiking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather, and bring gloves (for pulling weeds), snacks, water and a lunch. This is bear country, so bring bear spray if you have it.

National Trails Day is the nation’s largest celebration of trails. Each year, on the first Saturday of June, the American Hiking Society and the trails community invite Americans of all ages and abilities to participate in a National Trails Day event.

The Cody Field Office is located at 1002 Blackburn Street. For more information, contact Rau at prau@blm.gov or 307-578-5900. For more information about National Trails Day visit http://nationaltrailsday.americanhiking.org/.
