Jupiter, FL – Looking for something new to do? How about joining the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area (ONA) for one of two unique Lichen programs?

Lichen experts, Roger Rosentreter and Ann DeBolt, will be on-site at the ONA on January 25-26, 2017 to host two unique lichen programs.  On January 25 at 3:00 p.m., you can take a guided walk with an introduction to the many lichen species found at the ONA and throughout south Florida. On January 26 at 7:00 p.m. you do not want to miss the “Black Light Lichen Tour,” which promises to be extremely interesting and “not something you see every day.”

“For the third year, we are happy to host visiting scientists at the ONA to answer all our burning questions about Lichen,” said ONA Manager Peter De Witt “Is it a plant? Does it have roots? What’s the difference between lichen on tree, and lichen on rocks or the ground? Is powder puff lichen a real name? I encourage folks to come out for either of these programs to find out more.”

Space is limited for both programs and those interested should contact Peter De Witt, at pdewitt@blm.gov by January 20th for more information and to reserve a spot. Additional information about the ONA, and the Lichen programs can be found on the ONA’s official Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BLMJupiterInlet.
