Malta Field Office

The Malta Field Office covers Phillips County, Montana, located in the north-central part of the state in an area known as the Hi-Line.

The Malta Field Office manages a little over 1 million acres of public surface land and approximately 1.5 million acres of subsurface mineral estate in north‑central Montana. The office oversees a wide range of resources and activities, including livestock grazing, wildlife habitat conservation, outdoor recreation sites such as Camp Creek and Montana Gulch campgrounds and the Little Rockies Recreation Management Area, as well as energy development projects.  The Hi-Line is one of the richest parts of Montana for cultural and paleontological resources.

Popular outdoor recreation activities include camping, hiking, hunting, bird-watching, fishing, and more!

Staff work closely with partners, landowners, tribes, researchers, and community members to ensure public lands remain healthy, accessible, and productive, while supporting responsible multiple use across the Hi‑Line region.
