With colder weather approaching, people may start thinking about gathering firewood. Firewood permits are required to gather firewood from public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management in the Winnemucca District.

The BLM Colorado Little Snake Field Office will begin winter range closures Dec. 1 near Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to reduce the stress on wildlife and protect natural resources.

BLM Grand Junction and Colorado River Valley Field Offices will begin winter range closures Dec. 1. These seasonal closures protect wildlife and natural resources and reduce damage to roads.

The Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front Field Office seasonal motorized vehicle closure of the Sand Hills Critical Wildlife Area went into effect on Dec. 1, 2025, and will end on April 30, 2026.

On Nov. 27, 2025, the Scenic Drive area at Red Rock Canyon will be open from 6 a.m. to noon, and the Visitor Center will be open 8 a.m. to noon. The fee gates will close at noon. Normal hours will resume November 28.

The Winnemucca District will have Christmas tree cutting permits available for free starting Dec.. 5 through Dec. 24.

The Bureau of Land Management Elko District is making Christmas tree-cutting permits available to the public.

Carson City District will begin issuing free Christmas tree permits on Fri., Dec. 5, online and in-person. The permit is valid from the date of issuance through Dec. 25.
