A highlight of the day was a special visit from Smokey Bear, who arrived alongside Santa and Mrs. Claus to welcome families and greet children as they arrived. As vehicles pulled in, children eagerly waved and shouted greetings, clearly excited to see Smokey step out and join the festivities. His visit quickly became a centerpiece of the event, adding energy and excitement throughout the day.

“Almost all of the children proudly reported that they had been good all year,” Santa said with a smile.

The event brought together 21 BLM employees and volunteers from across the district who worked collaboratively to make the giveaway possible. Employees donated toys purchased with personal funds and volunteered their time to host the event, reflecting a shared commitment to service and community engagement.

Approximately 65 children participated, each receiving a stocking to fill and selecting a toy from the gift table. Smokey Bear spent time visiting with families, posing for photos, and interacting with children as they chose their gifts. Santa and Mrs. Claus also visited with families, helping create joyful moments and lasting holiday memories.

Laughter, smiles, and enthusiastic greetings filled the area as Smokey, Santa, and Mrs. Claus moved among the families, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.

“This event really showcases the heart of our workforce,” said District Manager William Mack Jr. “Seeing employees and volunteers come together on their own time to support families and connect with the LTVA community is something to be proud of. It’s a great example of how our people go above and beyond to serve the public.”

Parents and caregivers expressed appreciation for the BLM staff and volunteers, noting how meaningful the experience was for their children. The teamwork displayed throughout the event reflected a collective commitment to serving communities in ways that extend beyond traditional program roles.

As the holiday season approaches, events like the CRD LTVA toy giveaway highlight the positive impact BLM employees can have through simple acts of kindness and service. The Colorado River District extends sincere thanks to everyone who donated toys, volunteered their time, and helped make Smokey Bear’s visit — and the entire event — a memorable experience for local families.

Through efforts like this, BLM continues to strengthen relationships with the communities it serves and create lasting holiday memories rooted in compassion, collaboration, and public service.
