My Wild Horse Story: Mahima White

By Mahima White

It wasn't until I adopted my Mustang that I realized I had been missing a part of me for so long. I have owned, loved, and worked with horses since I was 6 years old. After I graduated high school in 2017 and my OHSET career had ended, I wasn't sure where my horse adventures would go from there. I was given the opportunity to finish some training on a big mustang mare named Faith. I fell madly in love with her and hung on to her for 3 years. We went to different shows and expos all around Oregon and Idaho. I knew in the back of my mind she wasn't mine, so in 2018 I made the decision to send Faith home and adopt a Mustang of my very own. Fortunately, Faith belongs to my boyfriend, so she hasn't gone far.

In Feburary 2018 we went to the Boise BLM corals where my boyfriend was picking out his tip challenge horse which would also be the horse I adopted. I picked out a 10 month old wild bay gelding, freezemark number 17625539, and facility born in Fallon, NV. Well, 5539 quickly became Apollo’s Finest Hour, Apollo for short. I helped a lot in the gentling process with Apollo as my boyfriend had another tip challenge horse at the time. I noticed immediately that Apollo was brave, gentle and had a huge personality. He has always been such a lover. Apollo is now 3 years old and I have done all the training/showing with him since the competition in 2018. He is under saddle, knows how to lay down, comes to a whistle, and loves to smile. He stands exactly 14 hands high at the withers and has some crazy hair! He is an ambassador for the Mustangs at the Oregon horse expos and participates in a variety of shows around Oregon and Idaho. He’s the kind of horse that you can’t help but love. I refer to Apollo as my tiny best friend and I feel he’s a great representative for the breed!
