The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) recently allocated $1.3 million through wildland fire management bureaus for firefighting equipment under the slip-on tanker pilot program.

The Prairie Fire in Southeast Utah was stopped by the Bitter Creek herbicide treatment on September 17, 2024, showcasing BLM’s hazardous fuels management in reducing wildfire spread and protecting ecosystems.

The East Canyon Project focused on habitat improvement for mule deer and the Gunnison sage grouse, and included one more benefit: providing wood for home heating, cooking, and other uses, to residents of San Juan County.

This summer, BLM Alaska held two firewood events during which participants collected approximately 350 cords of firewood and issued more than 196 free firewood permits, removing dead trees and increasing public safety.
