Kremmling, Colo.  — The Bureau of Land Management’s Kremmling Field Office will close areas on public lands acquired through the 2025 Blue Valley Land Exchange from April 15 through June 30 to protect sensitive wildlife. Land managers will close certain routes to public motorized and mechanized travel, including about six miles of routes in the San Toy area and near Green Mountain Reservoir. Visitors may still access the area on foot.

These seasonal closures help reduce disturbance to elk during calving and bighorn sheep during lambing. Human activity during these times can lower the survival of young animals, making temporary protections important for maintaining healthy herds. The closures will occur annually. KFO will install signage at route entry points and, where necessary, physical barriers to ensure compliance. The field office will conduct monitoring as needed during closure periods to assess compliance and wildlife response.

Call the Kremmling Field Office for more information at 970-724-3000. Find details on all field office closures on the Kremmling Seasonal Closures webpage.
