Zinc is found everywhere in our daily lives. It’s in every cell of the human body, the earth,  the food we eat, and products we use. We cannot live without it, and it’s a valuable resource for a renewable future! In fact, Zinc alloys are used in wind turbine towers to help generate renewable energy. 

Zinc is one of the major metals found and mined in Alaska, with hundreds of thousands of tons mined annually worth over $1 billion. 

The largest Zinc mine in the nation is Red Dog Mine in northwest Alaska. 

As of 2018, Alaska had 3.5% of the world’s Zinc reserves. (DGGS
