Sweetwater Guard Station Campground | Wyoming

The Sweetwater Guard Station Campground has 3 walk-in campsites and 8 pull-in sites featuring picnic tables and fire rings at each. The Campground is nestled at the base of the Wind River Mountains and sits next to the Sweetwater River. On the other side of the river is the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.

This campground is located about 73 miles from Rock Springs and 69 miles from Lander. The access road is an improved dirt road, typically well-maintained during summer months. There is no winter maintenance, and the site is typically accessible only by snowmobile during winter.

Additional facilities include a pit toilet and trash receptacles that are secured against bears with a carabineer-type clip. There are no hookups or potable water available. This free, accessible site is first come, first served.

Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)

The Campground has 3 walk-in campsites, 7 drive-up campsites, and 1 drive-up group campsite. The individual sites are connected by a graded dirt road.

There is one accessible pit toilet in the center of the Campground.

All the drive-up sites (including the group campsite) are accessible. They have picnic tables with gaps in the seating to accommodate wheelchair users as well as accessible fire rings with grill attachments. The path to the walk-in sites is not improved and there are no picnic tables at those campsites.

There is no potable water or cell phone reception. No picnic shelters are available, but tree coverage provides some shade.

Nearby Sweetwater Bridge (3 miles away) and Blucher Creek (5 miles away) campgrounds have similar features.
