Delta Wild and Scenic River Wayside | Alaska
The Delta Wild and Scenic River Wayside is located at MP 21.5 on the south side of the Denali Highway and is for day-use only (no camping). The wayside is equipped with an accessible picnic area, drinking water and toilets.
The boat launch provides access and parking for extended wilderness canoe trips in the Upper Tangle Lakes system to the south, where numerous lakes of all sizes provide important wildlife habitat.
Accessibility Description (ABA/ADA)
This day-use area is located just across the Denali Highway from Tangle Lakes Campground. There is room for several vehicles in the packed-gravel parking lot. Although none of the spaces are designated as accessible, the entire parking area should be suitable for people with mobility devices.
There are 2 accessible double vault toilets near the parking lot. Drinking water can be obtained from a hand pump that may be a challenge to operate for people with dexterity issues.
A gravel path leads from the well pump to 2 picnic areas with accessible picnic tables and pedestal grills sitting on packed gravel. Between the 2 picnic areas there is an angled interpretive panel at a height appropriate for wheelchair users.
Although the boat launch is not designated as an accessible fishing pier, visitors using mobility devices can fish from the launch area, which can be accessed using a gravel path from the parking lot.
Cell phone reception is spotty at this site.
