Public Input & Actions

BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

Wildflower season arrives at Carrizo Plain National Monument and other BLM-managed public lands

Wildflowers are blooming this year in California as the Golden State received ample precipitation from early winter storms. The Bureau of Land Management asks visitors to enjoy them responsibly and advises wildflower enthusiasts to plan ahead, and consider seeking out areas that may have fewer visitors to make your trip more enjoyable. Please stay on trails and leave wildflowers for other visitors to experience.

These grants support off-highway vehicle management activities, including visitor services, law enforcement, resource protection, planning and monitoring, and maintenance on BLM-managed public lands.

The BLM plans public safety measures for 2026 King of the Hammers race

The Bureau of Land Management will temporarily close public lands in the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area in San Bernardino County from Jan. 29–Feb. 7, 2026, during the annual King of the Hammers desert race event. The race is authorized by a BLM Special Recreation Permit, and the temporary closure is necessary for public safety and to provide an enhanced recreation experience for event participants and spectators.

BLM to conduct prescribed fire at Point Arena

The Bureau of Land Management's Ukiah Field Office plans to conduct prescribed fire operations in the Point Arena-Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument in Mendocino County. Pile-burn operations could start as soon as Dec. 8 and may continue periodically through fall, winter and spring. Prescribed fire operations will take place only when weather and fuel moistures allow for safe and successful burning.

BLM issues final analysis for mineral exploration in Inyo County

The Bureau of Land Management issued the final environmental impact statement analyzing proposed exploratory drilling on approximately 13 acres of public lands south of Lone Pine in Inyo County. If approved, Mojave Precious Metals Inc. could search for mineral deposits, including gold, on public lands where they currently hold mining claims.
