BLM publishes proposed and final rules in the Federal Register and carries out environmental reviews in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act. Announcing and explaining bureau plans and proposals and providing the public an opportunity to comment on proposed actions is an important part of informed management. We encourage citizens to make their voices heard on the issues that are important to them.

BLM to conduct prescribed fire in Kern County for wildfire prevention

The Bureau of Land Management plans to conduct prescribed fire operations when conditions allow this fall and winter in areas of the Keysville Recreation Area and Walker Pass Campgrounds, near Lake Isabella and Canebrake in Kern County. Prescribed burning helps to reduce hazardous fuels, moderate the potential negative effects of wildland fire, and increase firefighter and public safety. Burning may continue through mid-March depending on weather conditions. Pile-burn operations will only be conducted when weather and fuel moistures allow for safe and successful burning.

BLM to conduct prescribed fire at Bodie Hills for wildfire prevention

BISHOP, Calif. — The Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office plans to conduct prescribed fire operations when conditions allow this fall and winter in areas of the Bodie Hills, northeast of Lee Vining, in Mono County. Prescribed burning helps to reduce hazardous fuels, moderate the potential negative effects of wildland fire, and increase firefighter and public safety. BLM lifts seasonal fire restrictions in central California

The Bureau of Land Management has rescinded its seasonal fire restrictions order for public lands managed by BLM in central California. With this change, visitors can resume certain activities like campfires outside of designated recreation sites. However, a valid California Campfire Permit, available at www.readyforwildfire.org, or at any BLM, Forest Service or Cal Fire office, is still required for campfires and portable stoves.
