BLM and USWFS Plan Prescribed Fire Treatments near Parker
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS) plan to conduct prescribed fire treatments near Parker periodically from late October through Dec. 31, 2026, as weather, fuel and air quality conditions allow. The treatment area is about seven miles northeast of Parker and a half mile west of Parker Dam Road near Crossroads Campground, on the California side of the Colorado River. USWFS personnel will conduct the prescribed fire and monitor the area throughout the operation. Information about specific upcoming and active burns is available online.
The use of prescribed fire will dispose of piles of cut vegetation accumulated during site maintenance and firebreak construction. Removing these hazardous fuels will help reduce wildfire risk and improve access to the river in this recreation area. Multiple burn sessions may be needed to complete the work.
What the public should know:
- Smoke may be visible during operations and may settle in low-lying areas overnight.
- Nearby residents are encouraged to close windows if smoke affects their area.
- Motorists encountering smoke should slow down and use headlights.
- People with heart or lung conditions or other smoke sensitivities should monitor local air quality and follow guidance from their health care providers.
- Access to the treatment area may be temporarily restricted for public safety.
Firefighters will ignite vegetation piles only when weather, fuel and air quality conditions meet prescribed fire requirements. USWFS personnel will stay on-site to monitor prescribed fire and ensure public and resource safety.
