The BLM announced an oil and gas lease sale scheduled for Jan. 6, 2026, to offer 32 oil and gas parcels totaling 20,479 acres in New Mexico and Oklahoma.

The approved plan includes new open pit mining operations and will add in-situ recovery using a combination of injection, production, and monitoring wells. New authorized mining would result in the recovery of more than half a billion pounds of copper.

Operations at the new open-pit mine are expected to allow the company to adjust operations, as the existing Blackfoot Bridge Mine becomes depleted.

The preliminary parcel list includes 227 parcels covering 250,930.64 acres in Wyoming.

The closure area includes State Route 163 to the north, T.32S., R.66E sections 20, 21, 22, and 23 and is bracketed by Bruce Woodbury Dr. to the south and southwest, and Thomas Edison Dr. to the east.

The timber will be harvested from 423 acres near Malad City in Onieda County.

The sale scheduled for Dec. 9, 2025, will offer 60 oil and gas parcels totaling 50,980 acres in Colorado.

The April 2026 lease sale may include 23 oil and gas parcels totaling 8,992 acres in North Dakota and South Dakota.

The BLM plans to gather and remove approximately 250 excess wild burros.

In 2018, the Utah Department of Transportation applied for a right-of-way for a four-lane highway north of St. George to help ease traffic congestion in the area.

The planning area contains twelve Areas of Critical Environmental Concern, five Special Recreation Management Areas, a National Historic Trails corridor, and thirteen Wilderness Study Areas.

The Bureau of Land Management raised over $38 million in an oil and gas lease sale that included 23 parcels in Montana and North Dakota, totaling 7,604.47.
