BLM initiated a 30-day public scoping period prior to preparing an environmental assessment (EA) regarding a wild horse gentling & adoption partnership held between BLM Wyoming and the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

All of the offered wild horses and burros found new homes at the most recent BLM/Wyoming Honor Farm adoption. The highest bid was for 2-year-old Walker, who will be used to teach a college horsemanship course.

The Bureau of Land Management has announced plans to gather and remove excess wild horses from public rangelands in the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area to prevent impacts to rangeland health in Lassen County, Calif., and Washoe County, Nev. Gather operations will begin Tuesday, Oct. 1, and could continue for 15 days or longer.

The Grand Junction Field Office will begin a wild horse gather on or around Sept. 11 on the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range near De Beque, Colorado. The purpose of the gather is to ensure safe and humane fertility control will be effective in maintaining a healthy herd in Little Book Cliffs for many years to come.

The Bureau of Land Management concluded the FY2024 Marietta wild burro gather located approximately 45 miles south of Hawthorne, Nev., in Mineral County., on August 22, 2024.

On or about August 25, 2024, the Wells Field Office plans to begin an emergency wild horse gather on and around the Maverick-Medicine Herd Management Area (HMA) located approximately 62 miles southwest of Wells, Nevada.

The Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro program is working with Wyoming Mustang Association to sponsor Wyoming Mustang and Burros Days in Wheatland on Aug. 24-25.

Events will be held September 7, 14, 20 and 28. Trained and untrained animals will be offered to qualified adopters for a $125 minimum fee.

BLM, Sacramento County Sheriff to offer inmate-trained horses for adoption

The BLM Cedar City Field Office will begin gather operations to remove wild horses from within and outside of the Sulphur Herd Management Area in Beaver, Iron and Millard Counties starting Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The Humboldt River Field Office has concluded the FY2024 Blue Wing Complex wild horse and burro gather near Lovelock, Nev., on July 31, 2024.

The Bureau of Land Management announced a new management plan for the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range July 26, 2024.

The BLM has tentative plans to gather wild horses within and immediately adjacent to the Souths Steens Herd Management Area in southeast Oregon. The helicopter gather would begin around August 15.

The Bureau of Land Management will begin a wild horse gather on or after Aug. 15, 2024, in southwest Wyoming’s White Mountain HMA. Approximately 586 wild horses will be gathered to bring the HMA down to low AML.

On or about July 08, 2024, the Bureau of Land Management plans to begin a wild horse and burro gather on and around the Blue Wing Complex (Complex) located near Lovelock, Nev., using the helicopter-assisted method.

The Bureau of Land Management concluded the FY2024 Caliente Complex Bait and Water Trap Wild Horse Gather near Caliente, Nev., on June 29, 2024. The BLM gathered and removed 382 excess wild horses from public lands.

The newly minted Branded Bonanza, formerly Mustang Mania, will take place June 28 – 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Ford Idaho Horse Park. The Bonanza will showcase both an in-hand and under saddle competition featuring nearly 50 youth and adult trainers who have adopted and worked with a wild horse or burro since March.

The Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Department of Corrections – Silver State Industries conducted a saddle-started wild horse adoption event at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center on June 15, 2024.

The Bureau of Land Management Ely District, Bristlecone Field Office is developing a Herd Management Area Plan (HMAP) for the Pancake Complex. A 30-day public scoping period will begins June 13 and ends July 15, 2024.
