The closure includes camping as well as day-use areas. The Malpais Nature Trail and the Valley of Fires Visitor Center will also be closed.
The scheduled maintenance will include heavy equipment operations to brush, patch and fog-seal the roads and parking areas to extend their life. Building structures will undergo rehabilitation work to include stucco and roof repair. The BLM will post signs to notify the public of the closure.
